July 15, 2010Knowledge can be power, even for controlling your blood pressure! A British study randomly assigned 527 hypertensive participants either a standard treatment program managed by health care professionals or a self-managed program with professional support. During the course of the study, the self-managed participants, w...ho were trained to use blood pressure monitors, achieved a greater reduction in systolic blood pressure (the higher number in a blood pressure reading) than those receiving standard care. July 14, 2010 This summer get energized by connecting with nature. According to a study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, being outside in nature for as little as 20 minutes results in increased vitality levels. The study’s authors noted that related research has shown that this vitality increase may also boost resistance to physical illness. July 13. 2010 A new study shows that persons with rheumatoid arthritis can safely benefit from aerobic exercise. Researchers at University of Grenoble Medical School in France found that patients with RA who exercised regularly had "improved function, less joint pain, and greater quality of life."
