The Rubicon DX14 takes the place of the older DX08-style recommendation. It delivers considerably more performance for the money, particularly in battery capacity and motor output.
With dual 300W motors and a 330-pound capacity, the DX14 is powerful enough for everyday outdoor use while remaining foldable for transport. The chair weighs around 64 pounds, so it is not in the same ultra-lightweight class as the carbon-fiber chairs later in this guide, but it is still manageable compared with conventional power wheelchairs.
Range is one area where buyers need to read the configuration carefully. Rubicon’s own product material refers to around 18–20 miles depending on the section and configuration, while the current Amazon listing promotes a dual-battery version with up to 30 miles. We would therefore use the more conservative manufacturer figure unless the exact Amazon configuration being linked is confirmed at publication.
Rubicon specifies a 330-pound capacity, 64-pound chair weight, dual 300W motors and a foldable frame for the DX14. The current Amazon DX14 listing uses two 12Ah lithium batteries and advertises a higher maximum range for that particular configuration.
What we liked
The DX14 packs a lot of hardware into its price point. Dual 300W motors, a useful range, 330-pound capacity and folding design give it a strong balance between price and capability. We also really liked the remote control feature and found it easy to use when the client was doing transfers.
What could be better
At 64 pounds it stretches the definition of “lightweight”, and Rubicon’s published range figures vary between configurations. Buyers should check the exact battery package rather than assuming every DX14 delivers the maximum advertised range.
