The Luggie Super Plus 4 earns its place because it offers something genuinely different from most folding mobility scooters: a 360-pound user capacity without requiring a conventional rigid mobility scooter.
That makes it particularly attractive for larger users who still need a scooter that can fold for vehicle transport or storage.
The four-wheel platform, front coil suspension and 9-inch rear wheels create a more substantial ride than ultra-light travel scooters. FreeRider also includes Smart Turn Assist, which is designed to moderate speed during tighter turns and help make the scooter more predictable.
The standard 10.5Ah lithium battery provides up to approximately 12.5 miles. Buyers who need greater range can choose an optional 16.5Ah battery rated for as much as 22 miles, although FreeRider does not designate that larger battery for airline travel.
Owner feedback around the Luggie family commonly praises portability, ease of operation and the solid feel of the scooter despite its folding design. Users requiring higher capacity particularly value having a portable product that does not feel excessively narrow or flimsy.
What we liked
The 360-pound weight capacity is the standout specification.
Many so-called heavy-duty folding scooters still stop at around 250–300 pounds. The Super Plus 4 provides a meaningful step above that while retaining the basic folding design that makes the Luggie line popular. We also like the four-wheel layout, front suspension and 37-inch turning radius. That provides a useful balance between stability and maneuverability.
The option of a travel-friendly standard battery or longer-range battery is another thoughtful feature.
What could be better
Problem #1: It ain’t cheap. But the trade off is you get a very capable scooter for the price.
Extra strength comes with extra weight. At approximately 70 pounds before the battery and armrests, the Super Plus 4 will be too heavy for some users to lift into a vehicle without assistance.
